I GET IT!
You feel alone, misunderstood and judged. You know the anxiety is real, because you can feel it. But for some reason, the people around you don’t really get it. You feel abnormal and might even think sometimes that you have a few loose screws (which you don’t).
It impacts your day-to-day activities and completely catches you off guard. Showing up randomly when you least expect it. It’s frustrating and uncomfortable. Anxiety comes in many different shapes and sizes, but one thing that people who are suffering from it have in common is that we feel different from everyone else.
Unless someone has actually experienced anxiety, they can’t fully understand what it’s like. So it’s unrealistic to expect the people around you, who haven’t experienced it, to understand or help you. Out of love, they try, but the suggestions they offer aren’t really what you need nor do they work. They might have told you to… ‘Just relax. Breathe. Do some yoga.’ but it’s not that simple. Anxiety is complex, unpredictable and unique to each person.
It’s like trying to grab a bull by the horns. It’s scary. You have a fear of dying and so you close your eyes, and hope for the best each time it hits. Each time you panic and you suffer…But once you learn to grab those horns, your life will change drastically, just like mine did.
